cover my top 20 best online storebuilders it's gonna be kind of like a
speed dating for online platforms solet's get into that right nowbefore we continue take a quick second and subscribe to the channel so you'll be
notified every timeI put out a new video also make sure and watch this video to the end because I'm going todiscuss a couple of e-commerce platforms
that are kind of sleepers that youwouldn't think of also I'm going to show
you which two platforms I use to getresults like this in online sales okay
not all online platforms are createdequally obviously and depending on what
it is you are trying to achieve it'sgoing to dictate what kind of e-commerce
platform you're going to choose ifyou're a local Baker who really just
needs to have some local presence andnot a lot of online e-commerce Elling
and to use the entire breadth of appsthat are available to you then something
as inexpensive or easy to use as Wix orWeebly might be your solution but if
you're a big store who's looking for achange and moving over to a more robust
platform then maybe something likeMagento might be for you so it all
depends on what you're trying to dolet's start my list and this is in no
particular order but let's start my listwith big commerce so with any website
builder ecommerce platform I think whatyou really need to if you want to boil
down what it is you're looking for youwant to make sure that it has
ease-of-use for you the end user areyou're going to need to hire a technical
manager or somebody to come in and dothis or is this something that you can
handle so ease of use is a big one thesecond one is security you have to make
sure that your website is secure becausethe bigger you get the more interest you
get the more attention you draw frompeople that are trying to hack your
business so security is number two andnumber three is speed really it all
comes down to speed these days mobileusers especially will leave your site if
something isn't working the way theythink it should within about three
secondsso speed ease-of-use and security and
BigCommerce has all three of thoseoptions
I would certainly rank BigCommerce veryvery high on my list from anywhere from
a first-time novice user all the way upto an experienced pro so big promise
makes the cut on my top 20 list the nexton my list is Shopify now Shopify hits
all of those same metrics thatbigcommerce does especially with the big
three ease of use site speed andsecurity they handle all that stuff on
the back end I actually did a completevideo guide on BigCommerce versus
Shopify should be a card somewhere inthe upper corner of this video if you
want a more detailed video explanationabout those two platforms these two
platforms but Shopify hits all of thesame markers that BigCommerce does I
think that you could go with either oneof these guys and not hit any kind of
hurdle with setting up an e-commercestore especially one that you're looking
for long-term growth and usability ifthey have a ton of apps that are
available to available to them asthird-party plugins so you the sky's the
limit with shopify bigcommerce now thenext on my list is WooCommerceWooCommerce is also one of my favorite
platforms however it is self hosted youhave to have your own website hosting
you have to do your own security andprevent against hackers and the speed is
up to you so and it depends very largelyupon what hosting company that you go
with but WooCommerce provides a ton ofalmost an unlimited set of customization
because it's an open source platform youcan built on WordPress you can virtually
do anything that you can imagine and youcan keep it running fast you can keep it
running secure but to keep it runningit's going to be all up to you so if you
are more comfortable with doing a littlebit of coding and looking up on YouTube
how to videos for WooCommerce then thismight be the platform
for you because it's essentially freeyeah you have to pay for hosting but
hosting packages are far less than whatShopify or big commerce packages start
at so I really like WooCommerce I havesome low commerce stores running today
as I do with the other platforms butWooCommerce definitely makes the cut on
my top 20 list all right coming in nexton my list is 3d cart a 3d cart has been
around for a long time since about 1997I believe and they were one of the
pioneers for this software as-a-serviceonline store builder ecommerce based
store builder one of their biggestshoutouts is their claim to fame is that
they are super SEO friendly and thattheir stores rank higher due to SEO
performance then most other of thebuilder platform services like we just
talked about you know it's it is a userfriendly system their site speed is
adequate in my opinion although I havenot used 3d car in a long time so it's
on the lower end of the pricing programsfor some of these other platforms but it
makes my top 20 list for surenext on my list is Magento Magento has
been around for a long long time but itis another self-hosted type of platform
just like WooCommerce or WordPress inthat you're gonna need your own hosting
to run it now it is an Adobe companyAdobe acquired them some years back so
if you're a big fan of Adobe thenthere's a leg up for you they do have
free options available but Magento to meseems a little clunky you really need to
have some resources in place to reachout and have help with the technical
aspects because Magento can be a littlecumbersome in my opinion but it is very
much soscaled at our focused at scaling and
towards large business structuresobviously you can use it for a beginning
startup and growth but you're reallygoing to need to have some resources in
place to run the technical side ofMagento ok next on my list is PrestaShop
PrestaShop has both a software as aservice solution like a Shopify and it
has a self hosted solution like aWooCommerce so they do have a variety of
options that will appeal to just abouteveryone and they do have a lower price
point option so if price point issomething that you're concerned with yet
you still want an expanded option ofthemes and resources and apps and things
like that then PrestaShop woulddefinitely be one to at least explore on
your way to making a decisionok next on my list is Squarespace
Squarespace is a pretty big known namebrand you've probably seen their
commercials on the Superbowl and etcthey've been around since about 2004 or
so and they're a software-as-a-servicecompany so everything is hosted with
them shopping cart everything isincluded with their system and it is
pretty easy to use I've seen some reallyelegant looking Squarespace websites
that have been put out but they'resquarely focused squarely focused get it
on e-commerce and if you choose themI don't think that it would be a bad
choice at all okay next on my list isVolusion Volusion is a
software-as-a-service it is a hostedoffering so they take care of everything
the shopping cart they have apps themesyou know it's just a plug in play and
show sort of deal in my opinion I thinksorry the Volusion guys but in my
opinion I think that there are at theirprice point a lot of other systems like
Shopify or big commerce that reallywould be a more seamless or initial
choice than starting with Volusion butit is worthy enough to make my top 20
listokay so next on my list is Weebly Weebly
is a super easy drag-and-drop build yourown theme deal they have some themes
that you can plug in obviously a fewlittle apps and things like that but
Weebly is going to be on your moresimple end of the choice spectrum they
also offer a free version of Weebly itis not super robust but if you're just
looking for something that is free andyou're just starting out
Weebly might be a choice for you if youmaybe have one or two products only in
your store that you're trying to promoteset up with the free option and give
weekly Weebly a try okay and next on mylist is Wix Wix is very very much like
Weebly they offer a free version it is adrag-and-drop interface it it's almost
exactly like Weebly the thing that Idon't like about Wix is it doesn't SEO
really well it's not really SEO friendlya lot of the site links are specific to
Wix and not specific to your SEO thingsthat you're trying to accomplish
so I would not put Wix high on my listjust like I wouldn't we bleep but that's
because I am where I am with mye-commerce journey so I'm a little more
advanced than these guysbut it's nice to have a free website
builder platform in your back pocket tochoose if you choose to choose if you
choose to choose fromand next on my list is x-cart x-cart is
one of the older platforms you can seeright here it's been around since 2001
so going on 18 years of being in themarket x-cart has they boast about the
the cost of ownership for theirparticular platform you just pay a
one-time licensing fee for their systemhowever you do have to have your own
hosting so there will be an Associatedcost with that also there is some range
of technical aspects that you're gonnahave to be comfortable with with x-cart
so knowing that going in it is not astaples easy button push-button solution
like some of the first options on mylist okay next on my list is ecwid and
ecwid is kind of a unique platform theyhave traditional online software as a
service programs that you would expectand they have free ones they start with
free that are pretty robust but whatmakes ecwid unique is that if you
already have an online presence andyou're looking to add a shopping cart to
it a mobile arena a platform ecommerceplatform to your existing website say
you had a nice thirty thousand dollarwebsite built for you five years ago but
it does have does not have any commercecapability you could simply go with
ecwid and that kind of adds on ane-commerce layer to your existing set up
which is certainly nice to have forfolks that haven't had any e-commerce
capabilities in the past okay next on mylist is a bot a cart now they have a
solution very similar to the previousone that I mentioned ecwid and that
allows you to set up says right here youcan sell on your existing website quick
and easy so again if you have anexisting website that does not have an
e-commerce solution you can implement abhante cart right into that and
instantly be selling online probably oneof the biggest hurdles with these guys
is that it takes some technical liftingto get this thing implemented so you
would definitely need to hire some sortof webmaster or program
to implement a bhante cart but theirsolution is definitely sound and sound
enough to make my top 20 listokay next on my list is Big Cartel so
basically if you are in the cartel thisis the e-commerce platform for you
kidding Big Cartel has free options theyare pretty much software as a service so
it's hosted online just plug and playand you can tap right into instantly
having an e-commerce platform they havesome nice-looking templates so Big
Cartel if you're looking for especiallya low you know free entry points
ecommerce platform you could certainlyconsider Big Cartel although it is not
the most robust package at the freelevel you certainly look at exploring
Big Cartelokay next on my list is Drupal Drupal
Commerce Drupal is a online self hostedmeaning you have to host it yourself
open source platform just like WordPressWordPress and Drupal were the big two
years and years and years agoI think Drupal has fallen off a little
bit just by the rise in popularity ofWooCommerce but certainly they have a
very sound back in open sourcetechnology and Drupal chrome Drupal
commerce is a nice complement to that sothey have free options available you
have to get your own hosting andprobably need to get a webmaster to help
set it all up for you but if you areinterested again in a free open-source
version of e-commerce platform thenDrupal certainly should be one of your
top couple considerations for youre-commerce platform next on my list is
GoDaddy so GoDaddy ecommerce GoDaddywouldn't be my first choice but they are
so heavily infused in or dominant in thedomain name space that so many people
have accounts with GoDaddy and the nicething about GoDaddy is you know that
they are going to be around for a longtime a lot of these little website
builder platforms they rise and thenthey fall and they close down so where
does that leave you it leaves you withneeding to export all of your
information and find a new host andmaybe that's why you're watching this
particular video butback to Go Daddy go daddy is one it's
not the most intuitive website builderalthough they tout it to be and it may
have improved over the last few yearshas certainly been three or four years
since I've used it last for a client andI wasn't the happiest with it then but I
think it's worthy enough noteworthyenough to mention on my top 20 list due
to the fact that they're such a big namein the space ok next on my list is moon
fruit moon fruit they have a very ifvery sleek sophisticated looking
websites that they put out it is hostedso they take care of the security and
the speed and things of that nature butthey do also have free options available
again any free hosted software as aservice program that you look into is
not going to be the most robust but itis nice to have that option especially
when you're small and starting out youjust need to be sure that you can grow
into all of the feature sets and thingsthat these platforms offer but moon
fruit would definitely be a good one tolook at to start out with next on my
list is open cart open cart again is aopen source ecommerce platform very much
like Magento or WooCommerce and thelikes you'll need your own hosting so
that'll be a cost but open cart has avery neat and robust service set you can
see with their dashboard and all kindsof management extensions that they have
Open Cart would definitely be one tolook at they have what I do like about
them is they have a lot of videos toreally help you get off the ground and
get started without the need it istechnical but without the need of
potentially hiring a web host or sorry awebmaster to help you get this thing up
and running so opencart makes my top 20list
next on my list is ultra cart ultra cartmakes my top 20 list as a self-hosted
got to host it yourselfplatform it is squarely designed at
small businesses and one-man shops it isfairly easy to get up and running and
make all kinds of modifications andchanges as you go but you know again
anything that's self hosted you're goingto need to be sure that speed and
security of your hosting package thatyou select is paramount so you really
want to make sure that you have thosethings dialed in so that a solution like
ultra cart would run really good for youand last on my list is Yola now Yola is
a hosted solution they do have freeofferings so again if it's a budget
minded decision that you're going afterthen Yola might just be for you it is
certainly worth making my top 20 listand it's worth a minute to peruse their
feature set and see if it's somethingthat appeals to you but Yola is yet
another website ecommerce builderplatform that you might not have thought
of in the first place so rounding out mylist at number 20 Yola hey if you've

hundredaller palette so again if you can if youcan kind of hit that market that wouldbe great but let's talk about the secondproduct so this one's actually reallycool it's it's high cool skincare devicenow the packaging yet again is prettydecent and let me just show you thisproduct right over here really reallycool product okay the colors are alsoreally good let me just get you theprice the price for this one is $24 and81 cents now this does one of two thingsall right so what does this do exactlylet me read to you exactly what it doesso it does skin waning and moisturizingand thengoes ahead and removes wrinkles anotherwrinkle remover now why am i focusing ona wrinkle remover is because firstthings first the store that I'm creatingor the brand that I'm creating is gonnabe centralized around wrinkle removal sothat's gonna be a huge pivotal point forme but the other thing is that a lot ofthese products have different lights nowwith these products that have differentlights each light does somethingdifferent for your face and I'm reallygonna go out there and target the andthey're technically all vanity at thatpoint but I'm gonna really target theones that are pressing and ones thatpeople are willing to pay a lot of moneyfor for example getting rid of wrinklesthe other way except using the tool likethis one or other tools is to go to adoctor like a because Googleknows if you have a really long domainname you're probably not that serious sonumber two picking a shopping cart sothis is also very important a lot ofpeople get hung up on this but it's notthat complicated it's very easy I have alot of videos comparing differentshopping carts and explaining which oneis best but let me give you the shortversion right here so there are hostedand self hosted shopping carts so whatdoes that mean a hosted shopping cart iswhere that company that you pay does allthe technical work for you they havecomputers that are doing all the hostingnow self-hosted means that either youhave to host it yourself on your owncomputer or you have to pay a differentcompany on top of that to host yourwebsite just trust me on thisget a hosted shopping cart it takes awayso much of the headache unless you're anextremely technical person and you likewaking up at 3 a.m. to diagnose why yourserver is having an issue want to get ahosted shopping car you don't don't wantto take care of that work yourself sowhat are some examples of self hostedshopping carts Shopify and big commerceare two of them now these two are bothreally good but trust me on this Shopifyis much much better why is it better ithas better templates it's got betterdesign overall it's easier and it's moreuser friendlyyou can also bigcommerce as sellinglimits if you sell too much they'llactually charge you more money whichthat is no fun so don't go with bigcommerce definitely go with Shopifyif you're between these two now for 99%of the people watching this videoShopify is gonna be the answer but I dowant make you aware of one other optionif you are on that 1% WooCommerce couldbe good if you are more of a technicalperson if you know how to this is aself-hosted shopping cart and if youknow how to run shopping carts you'repretty technical you may want tolook on the into this you save a littlebit of money it's not even that muchmoney cuz you still have to pay goin-depth number 3 SEO and keywordresearch so to be honest I think thisshould probably be done earlier in onthe process but it's a little bit it'slike any kind of research before youstart any business you're gonna want todo some research and then SEO is veryimportant when you're actually settingup the site itself so before you set upyour sites you at this point hopefullyalready have your shopping cart butbefore you set up the site you want tostart thinking about SEO and thinkingabout keyword research so what iskeyword research well let's start offwith what is SEO first SEO is searchengine optimizationsounds fancy all it really means istrying to rank higher up in Google youwant your product to rank number one inGoogle now depending on what you'retrying to rank number one in Google forthat may or may not be possible ifyou're trying to rank for somethingreally broad if you're trying to rankfor something like shorts in Google asnumber one you really have no chance butwhat you could do is try to rank forhighways blue dance shorts so if you'retrying to raise rank forI always blew Dan short you have a mucheasier time because there's lesscompetition there's less heavy hittersin there so that's what search engineoptimization in a nutshell is now thereis two types of SEO there is on-page andoff-page SEO now on page SEO iseverything you do to your website tomake it so that Google can more easilyread it and is more likely to rank ithigh up in the search results so this isthings like we'll talk about in just asecond but off page SEO on the flip sideart is basically trying to get links toyour website so let's go and let's talkabout on-page SEO really quick andeverything you need to do early on andin a different video I'll talk aboutsome off page SEO but once again it'sbasically just trying to get people tolink to your website Google is a bit ofa popularity contest and the more linksyou have coming in the more votes yourwebsite has and the higher ups gonna beso on-page SEO which is the first thingand as a side note I have all of theseavailable in a checklist for free getthe e-commerce success pack I have achecklist with all this information anda lot more information on how to set upyour online stores so first off thefirst thing is using keywords that'spart of on-page SEO so if your keywordis peanut butter you want to make surethat it's in your product title you wantto make sure it's in your productdescription you want to make sure it'severywhereyou then want to take those keywords andput them in your header tags those arethe big text you usually see indifferent sections of content withinwebsites and this lets Google know thatthis page is really about this one topica lot of times the title of a page willbe an h1 tagso the next thing we're going to talkabout is meta title and meta descriptionso meta title meta description is verysimply what you see when you search forsomething in Google so this is anexample of a meta title and this is themeta description and you can enter thisinformation if you're using Shopify forinstance it's very easy to do you cansay hey this is what I want the metatitle to be and this is what I want themeta description to be and there's twocomponents here not only should itcontain keywords that you're trying torank for but it should be something thatencourages people to click on it becauseGoogle also sees if people areconstantly clicking on your searchresult it knows that it's very relevantto what people are searching and it'shigher it'll-it'll rank it higher andhigher up so think about this is a freeadverttreat it with the same care as if youwere spending hundreds of dollars withit you want to make sure that it looksis friendly to people as it possibly canso they will click on it the next thingwe're going to talk about is image SEOso your website's probably gonna have alot of images specifically of productsyou want to make sure that the alt textand the final name both of these containthe keywords you're trying to rank forso if you were to show a jar of peanutbutter for instance you'd want it to becalled peanut butter jpg and you'd wantto set the alt image to jar of peanutbutter very easy to do but a lot ofpeople overlook this and I've actuallyhad a lot of images ranked number 1 inGoogle because I follow these goodpractices and then on top of that whatthat does is lets know Google know themthat page is about whatever keyword I'mtrying to do and it's more likely torank it in the organic search resultslast thing we'll talk about is thewebsite structure so the way youstructure your website is very importantfor instance let's say you had thewebsite peanut butter lovers calm thenyou might want your product to be peanutbutter lovers calm slash jar F peanutbutter very simple for Google to realizewhat this is about Google knows thatit's about this page is a jar of peanutbutter so when someone searches for jarof peanut butter it's much more likelyto put this page high up in the searchresults next up number 4 set up yourstore and I know I'm talking about a lothere I know there's a lot of informationonce again you can get all of it in thechecklist totally for free so setting upyour store is very important but thetruth is it's really easy all you reallyhave to do is add a product especiallyif you're using Shopify even withWooCommerce all you have to do is add aproduct and it's pretty much ready to gopeople can buy from you now you're gonnahave a pretty ugly store if all you dois add a product so some other things tothink about is your obviously yourproduct page but then your homepage thishome page is probably going to be thenumber one page people go to so you wantto do a lot of things here one of thethings is you want to make it friendlyand welcoming but also make it easy forpeople to go to the home page to aproduct page because the less clicks ittakes for someone to buy the more likelythey are to purchase if you make it verycomplicated for people and you make themclick all around theand you make it takes them ten stepsjust to get to checkoutthey're gonna get bored they're gonnalose track on how to do it you want toyou want to make people think as littleas possible this is why candy is at thecheckout aisle nobody goes to the storevery few people go to the store to buycandy but when it's there it's so easywhy not you want to make your websitefollow that same mentality you wantpeople to come and be like wow that wasso easy I didn't have to even thinkthat's why amazon has one-clickpurchases because it knows when theymake it easy for people to buy they'regonna buy more things so product pagehomepage the next thing is yournavigation this needs to follow the sameprinciple you need to make it as easy aspossible for people to get to checkoutso that means as few clicks as possibleif they have to click on a category pagethen they have to select something elsethen they have to select something elseand then something else they're gonnaget lost they're gonna forget how to doit drop-down menus work very well forthis there's a lot of other differentways but count count how many clicksdoes it take for you to get to checkoutit sounds like an old Tootsie RollTootsie Pop commercial but seriously howmany checks how much typing how muchinteraction does it need and see if youcan lower that next thing is about Uspage and all those other pages you wantto make your about Us page be reallyfriendly if they're buying from youthey're not buying from this giantcompany they're buying from anindividual and you want them to knowthat people especially right now aremuch more willing to buy from otherhumans for whatever reason and I thinkit's really beautiful people aren't asinterested in buying from giantcorporations because they know they wantto support someone else they want tosupport someone's dream they want tosupport those small businesses so on theabout Us page this is your chance toshine don't try to hide don't try to actlike you're this giant company whenyou're not tell people hey I'm Travis Istarted this company and this is whathappened this is why it's such a greatcompany this is all this my all my heartis in this company let them know on yourabout Us page and you want to do that onall your pages so the next thing we'lltalk about this will be the last majorbullet point we as well anotherthing is just general PR reaching out tonewspapers reaching out to blogsreaching out to different mediamagazines all that kind of stuff andtelling them hey I've got this greatwebsite this is what makes me specialand I have a video on this as well onhow to pitch newspapers and magazinesthis isn't always easy but it could leadto some big results so next up socialmedia once again another free option foryou we're gonna get into some of thepaid options later which I think areactually much more powerful than a lotof the free options but if you're juststarting out you may want to start withthe free often so social media veryimportant and these are things likeInstagram I think right now Instagramand Pinterest are the two strongestsocial media platforms other than maybeYouTube as well as you know you'rewatching this video YouTube's greatbecause you can create a really goodconnection Instagram is good because youcan amass a huge following very easilyjust taking good product shots and thenPinterest is good because it has linksthey can click to your website so ifyou're gonna do Pinterest just a quicktip you want to do something that'snative to the Pinterest platform so ifyou had the website peanut butter loverscom you'd want to have differentarticles about different peanut buttersor different Pinterest pins aboutdifferent peanut butters and recipes forpeanut butter and things like that andthen you could drive traffic toa Content piece on your website and thenlet them know that they can buy thesupplies from you or whatever you sellon your website so once again I have alot of videos on this stuff so I'm notgoing to talk too much about thatnumber five AdWords and this starts toget really powerful like that withAdWords you can start getting trafficqualified traffic to your website andthe quick version on how AdWords worksis basically you say anytime someonesearches for peanut butter I want toshow an ad to them and I'm willing topay a dollar a click now I wouldn't dothat specifically because peanut butteris such a broad term so many people aredoing it a better option might be buynatural organic peanut butter becauseyou know that you have the best naturalorganic peanut butter so when someonesees an ad for that they're more likelyto buy from you so once again I have avideo on this this is a very detailedtopic it's much more technical than alot of the other things but it's veryrewarding if you do it correctly a lotof my sales come from AdWords next up isGoogle Shopping slash platic listing adsthis is my favorite one for really easyresults I highly recommend everybody dothis that's selling something you canset it and forget it in a lot of waysyou do want to add negative keywords andI do have videos talking about what thatis basically you want to tell Googlewhen not to show your ad but naturallywhat it does is it'll look at yourwebsite and it'll automatically pickwhat when to show your ad so you'regonna have to tell Google when not toshow your ad so technical topic anothervideo will go into depth about thatnumber seven paid social media so thisis Facebook ads this is InstagramInstagram ads Pinterest ads I think eventwitter has ads but I don't recommendthat as much Facebook ads is verypopular right now I even have a coursefor a beginner's guide to Facebook adsso if that's something you're interestedin check out my youtube channel I've gota ton of videos on Facebook ads or youcan check out the course I'll put thelink down below in the show notesnumber eight retargeting and display adsprobably not well the retargeting partis very powerful but display ads aren'tand you can retarget using adwords usingdisplay google adwords or you canretarget using facebook ads and this issome of the best money you can spendbecause it's people that have alreadybeen to your website and then you reachget them you show them banner adseverywhere they go and this is why whenyou go to a website and you go to yourFacebook or you go surfing around theinternet it seems like they know whatyou've been doing it seems like theseads are following you they are the it'speople like me and people like soon tobe you that are paying for these becausethey know once someone's been to yourwebsite once it's worth a lot of moneyto get them there again and they're morelikely to click on an ad so retargetingvery powerful 9 paying for placements alot of blogs especially will allow youto pay a little bit of money to get anadvertisement they're probably not myfavorite way of making money but I doknow some people that just are making akilling using this and last but notleast number 10 influencer marketing andthis is really hot right now I know alot of people's first especially oneperson that built an entire seven-figurebusiness just around influencermarketing this is the digital age peopleare looking up to celebrities people arelooking up to Instagram models andinfluencers and all that kind of stuffand if you can give them a product maybeeven pay them to post about your productyou're going to get sales now there'sgood ways to do it and there's bad waysto do that once again this is foranother video as I said I have videosabout all this stuff so make sure yousubscribe to my youtube channel now as Ipromised I quickly want to go over someof the legal stuff and now this is justin the United States and this is justfrom my experience I'm not a lawyer Idon't play one on the youtubes so don'tget mad at me if I say something wrongbut this is what I've been told to do inmy experience number one I recommend ifyou're just starting out just getting aDBA you can get it for 99 bucks on LegalZoom you can do it even cheaper if youdo more of the work yourself but for mymoney $99 on Legal Zoom is the way to doit now if you sell a product that peopleare going to eat or it's a high-riskitem something that you're likely to getsued you might want to look at an LLC ora LLC that's taxed as an S corp which iswhat I personally chose and there's sometax benefits there I can do anothervideo about that but for 99 percent ofthe people out there a DBA is probablyenough the benefit of an LLC is it's aseparate entity so if someone were toget sick from your product or getinjured from your product they can't sueyou they can only sue the entityif need be the entity can go out ofbusiness there's also some other taxbenefits to it but for most peoplegetting start with the DBA is more thanenough next you want to get an EINnumber and this is basically just fortax purposes I'm actually not a hugeexpert on that I just know it'ssomething you need to do and it's freeto get so in the checklist I haveactually they can get up here I havelinks to all this stuff specifically thewebsite where you can get your EIN forfree the next thing is a business bankaccount I personally have been usingu.s. bank I don't necessarily highlyrecommend them but they were the bestoption when I did my research I couldalways do more research maybe there's abetter option out there and if you knowof one leaving in the comments but USbank did not charge anything for theirbusiness bank account which I reallyliked so that's really important and assoon as possible you want to startseparating your transact what you'remaking as far as money and what thecompany is making as far as money whatyou're spending as far as money and whatthe company is spending is part of USmoney and the next tip I have for you isgetting a business credit card this isgonna if you get a business bank accountand a business credit card it's gonnasave you so much hassle when it comestime for taxes and accounting and tryingto figure out well what's a businesstransaction and what's not and not onlythat when you get a business credit cardthere's a – a lot of beautiful creditcards out there that'll literally payyou to get their credit card I have alink up here for my current businesscard that I'm using the current one thatI'm using when I when I got it if Ispent four thousand dollars which I waseasily able to do within the first threemonths I believe I made I got fiftythousand points which was equivalent ofsix hundred twenty-five dollars soliterally just for running my business Imade six hundred twenty-five dollars nowyou can make a whole career basicallyout of they call it point hacking ortravel hacking and I've turned a bunchof credit cards so I'll get a new creditcard every few months and I obviously Ipay them all off don't ever go into debtover something like thisbut I'll spend four to five thousanddollars on a credit card I'll get allthe points and then I'll get a newcredit card and I travel for free I goto all kinds of fun places and it's allbecause of three miles and three pointsI get from credit people q4 is extremelyimportant in any business regardless buton ecommerce especially with holidayshopping Christmas time period all ofthat goodness it is crucial to executeit correctly to make a lot of moneysimple as thatso with our business and particularlycater to a lot of holiday onlineshoppers like eBay is huge in Decemberthat's our best month always so one ofour stores has a lot of old collectiblesafraid for like stocking stuffers thingslike that so obviously a ton ofindustries do super well on eBay inDecember not just ours and in this videoI'm gonna want to highlight a few thingsto get you guys going in the rightdirection and I found a tunnel tunneloverpassalright guys we're back at the warehousewe got all the stuff from the storeinstead of me trying to yell over theFerrari and you're not really being ableto hear me since it's so loud I figuredall right let me just park the Ferrariset up the camera here and talk so youguys can clearly hear me so anyway likeI was saying this video I really want tofocus just on e-bay primarily becausethat's our main source of e-commercesales but you can basically apply a lotof this to Shopify Amazon a lot of thesethings will still hold true over therebut regardless if you guys are goinginto q4 and you're not already one-commerce whether you're just a normaldude who wants to get intoentrepreneurship and have a side incomegreat if you're a pre-existing businessthat isn't already on e-commerce whatare you doing you should definitely beon e-commerce and if you're like me andalready have a store and want to growhere are some trips tips and tricks onhow to do that so I've made plenty ofeBay videos in the past go check themout there's all over the channel thelast two ones were very very in-depthand detailed talking about eBay SEOtalking about five things I think it wasfive or ten things you need to knowbefore getting on eBay or how to starton eBay all that good stuff so you canfind a bunch of good information therebut for this video I want to mention onething that I haven't touched on beforereally gotten in depth on and that iseBay sponsored promoted listings now Ihaven't touched on this before because Iwas still kind of honing it in playingwith it because it's a fairly newlyintroduced program by eBay now a littlebit of background and what they are andwhy they're important and why I'mtelling you about them so before on eBayit was all about SEO get you'relistening to the top of search resultsand that's how you that's how you'regonna drive the most customers to yourlistening get the most sales and beinfront of the most people obviouslythat that's how eBay was and it wastricky to get to the top hone in the SEOthat's why I've made previous videostalk about that while SEO is still veryvery important there is a way to let'ssay speed up bypass a catalyst promotedlistings are a catalyst to getting yourlistings to the top organically now whatdo I mean by that now promoted listingswhat they are you are not paying eBaydirectly hundreds of dollars to get yourlistings to the topor you can sell anything no promotedlistings work by giving a portion ofyour sales to eBay they take a portionof your sales to put your listing higherat the top so you don't pay themanything until your listing sells that'swhat's nice only when somebody buys fromthat listing from the promoted listingput to the top by eBay then they willcharge you so it's pretty fair if youthink about it alright guys so I'm gonnago ahead and hop on my laptop real quickhere and show you guys what thesesponsored listings look like oneimportant note is they blend in prettywell with the other listings so I'mgonna go ahead and search up adidasultra boost for example and we're gonnago ahead and sort by best match andlet's see if we can find sponsoredlistings boom there we go the firstlisting is a sponsored listing as youguys can see in grey small text righthere it's a sponsored that lets you knowit is a promoted listing so for instancethis is not a promoted listening this isnot nope this one is so two out of thetop six are so if we go ahead and clickon this now it looks like a completelynormal listing you can't even tell it'sa sponsor's listing once we're on hereif we go ahead and purchase this itemhowever much percent that this dude setup this listing with that he will bepaying to eBay so if we purchase fromhere he's paying a fee to eBay to gethis listing toward the top with promotedlistings so if we scroll further down wecan see most of these are just genericokay there's one there's another one forexample these two there you go that'show you tell guys it's literally justthat simple just the gray little wordssaying sponsored and that is what letsyou know promoted listings so this guyhe is paying quite a bit to be numberone that's for sure and then I'm alsogoing to show you guys what it lookslike on an item to add the promotedlisting so I'm at the bottom of one ofmy items I just revised it and I can goahead and click boost my itemsvisibility and here I can select therate I can say I want you know twopercent or I want twenty percent it justdepends how crazy you want to goobviously with the trending rate beingeight point one percent if you want togo above that you don't need to go muchabove that to be at the top of the spendgroup but right around 8 percent couldbe the sweet spot again you justto play with it and see what works foryou but that's all you do to change itand then you click update listing orsubmit listing with the promotion andyou are good to go with your sponsorlistening now where is it a good thingand where is it a bad thing believe itor not these remote listings can be veryvery helpful or they can run you out ofa lot of money so you have to be carefulwhat you're doing with them and now I'lltell you which ones to use them on sopromoted listings are fantastic for anew item that you're just putting outthere that you know is going to do wellbut it needs a little these little pushto get it going that's what I usepromote of listings for the most but Iknow it's a good item and maybeorganically it would take weeks if notmonths to get toward the top of searchresults you can start using promotedlistings it'll get toward the top quickbecause you're paying for it of courseand then once you start to get somesales on that item get some reviews getsome positive feedbacks from it get someorganic searches it'll really start tosnowball really quickly like you'll getto their weight quicker than waitingmonths to do it organically and you knowyou are paying something you are payingpercentage of your sales but in the endof the day it's worth it depending onwhat percentage you give eBay and thatpercentage can reign range from 1percent to 100 percent I don't know whyyou would do anywhere toward the top endof that percentage but eBay actuallygives you a trending percentage so basedon your item they'll tell you ok yourcompetitors are you know approximatelygiving this percentage toward theirpromoted listings and you can do abovethat if you're really trying to get tothe top or you can do less than that ifyou just want something up and reallyget some action but not spend too muchor you can just do the trending ratewhatever you decide but that's normallydepending on your category and industryI've seen it where it's 5% to 10%sometimes lower sometimes higher justdepends what you're doing some listingsare good to promote in some other othersaren't the best ones that promote arereplenishable restock able my cash cowlistings as I've talked about before andmy buddy prints actually principal tellyou guys know him he's eBay wizard he iskilling it on eBay we've made videos inthe past before again be sure to checkthem out but he made a video talk aboutfromlistings and you're gonna want to checkthat out if you want to in-depth datarich look at it it'll be linked downbelow or I'll put it up on the screenprints great friend he outlined it andvery very good information over thereand he was on the same same wavelengthof use them on replenishable listings ifI had you know one-off adidas ultraboost maybe your flipper and you foundhim at a Goodwill store at a yard saleor something you bought them from afriend I would not use a promotedlisting for like a one-off shoe that'sit's a bad idea because if a customer islooking for this ultra boost looking forthis price range in this size they'relooking for something very specificanyway they'll eventually find yourlisting if they look hard enough whichthey probably won't they're looking forsomething very specific so if they'regonna find you anyway what's the pointof paying to be at the top and competingwith other people who shouldn't even beyour competition if your customer isvery specific so I would not do it inthat regard prime listings in my opinionwants to get art the restock poultrypunishable items that you know will dogood long term that you can havehundreds if not thousands of quantity upand you can just crank through that'sthe best-case scenario for promoterlistening so now why do why do I mentionall this promoted listing stuff that'sbecause last couple videos I've gottensome comments saying you know uh tobuild up your SEO it takes so long and Idon't know if it's worth it for me eBayseems kind of hard well yes in the pastit was quite quite a long time like Imentioned to get your listings to thetop and to really get cranking on eBaybut with this new promoted listings likeI said it's just a catalyst it can cutyour time by quite a bit meaning you canget started on eBay now like I said youstill need feedback points and somecredibility on eBay because regardlessif people find you through a promotedlisting or normal listing they're gonnalook at your feedback score they'regonna look at your other items let makesure you know what you're doing beforethey buy from you so you still need thatin place so regardless it takes sometime to get going on eBay in that regardbut that is why I highly suggest inevery single video to right now if youhaven't already go open an eBay accountstart buying someitems on there just to get familiar withthe buying side of things and then onceyou're ready start selling some itemsand what if whether you're buyingsomething for a dollar or a thousanddollars you get a feedback point so ifthey leave you feedback you're buildingup feedback so when you go to sell itemsif you have I would say having at leasta hundred at least is good you know I'vetens of thousands and that really helpsbut having more than you know ifsomebody's trying to sell items withthree feedback points a eBay is notgonna be as nice with your SEO andpromoting you because you don't know asmuch of what you're doing on eBay mostlikely and be customers are just gonnabe like ah three points am I reallygonna buy from this guy who's done threetransactions or am I gonna buy from thisguy who's done three thousand so that'swhy feedback is all always alsoimportant that's why I tell you guysevery time open an eBay account it'sfree it's easy to do and just startgetting familiarized with the platformand it'll help when you've been buyingon eBay it'll help knowing what you lookfor and then you can be in kind ofcustomers eyes and you'll think okay Ishould do this isn't this one I'mselling to replicate what I want whenI'm buying so that's why that'simportant but I thought I would sharethat with you guys talk about that newkind of program by eBay it has been veryuseful for me but you gotta hone it indon't don't do don't start with somemassive like budget and don't put thebar all the way up to I'm gonna give 40percent to eBay so I'll be at the top ofall promoted listings you don't want todo that just start little by little honeit in and watch it closely let the dayto do the talking if it works it worksif it doesn't it doesn't and the othertime not not to use eBay promotedlistings is when you're already doingreally really good in SEO now what do Imean by that again if you are a resellerof shoes and you're selling thesereplenishable listings for these ultraboost shoes and you type in adidas ultraboost and you're like number one ornumber two already what's the point ofputting up a promoted listing just tolike compete with your own listingbecause it's not like a promoted listingtakes over your existing listing youonce you put out a promoted listing youstill have your original one out thereand then youanother one for promote for yourpromoted listing a lot of people don'trealize that so if you're already sayyour number one slot and then you put upa promoted listing and you become numbertwo slot you will have the first and thesecond slot one as an organic search andthen one as the promoted listing so ifsomebody clicks on your first one andbuys from there great no fees yournumber one that's that's your non fromone listening but somebody goes yourfirst one clicks out and then wanders toyour second one or you're promotedlisting and buys from there your payingthe fee so you kind of get screwed overthere so just be just be conscientiousof that stuff when your SEO is crankedand you're doing good you don't need todo a promote of the listing that's why Isay use that as a catalyst to get yourlisting going and to get the tractionand the ball rolling build up somefeedbacks build up some reviews on thatpage on that listing and like I said letthe snowball do the rest so anyway backto the overall topic of this videoecommerce queue for get into it ifyou're not already same same thingsapply to Shopify or Amazon queue for isgonna be huge it's gonna be huge for memy store relies on it heavily and likeprints my buddy prints he doeselectronics oh my goodness the amount ofholiday sales he does wasjust saying so yesterday case in pointperfect yesterday I was getting dinnerwith my dad and we went to the mall andI stopped by a shoe store that I stoppedin every once in a while like where Ibought my ultra boost just seeing ifthey happen to have any deals and I goto their adidas section and they havethree nmd colorways different colorwaysall on sale for 50 $49.99 and these Ithink they either retail for 130 or 180so that is a super good deal and anyonewho knowsand nmds would know that any colorwaynmd is brand new is worth way more than50 bucks like you can't get him for 50bucks so anyway I look these shoes up onebay just to see what they were sellingfor and make sure there was no like evenbetter deal out there obviously therewasn't the cheapest buy it now listingcheapest like replenishable listing froma reputable seller was $80 $80 for theseshoes when I got them for 50 soentrepreneur says well if I can buy themfor 50 and sell them online for 80 letme do that and flip them and make somemoney and that's like straight-up justretail arbitrage like you're not evendoing anything but middle Manning theseshoes so guys always have your eyes openI'm considering going back there andjust buying a ton of them and sellingthem on eBay comment down below if Ishould do that that would be really funguys comment down below if you want meto do a complete walkthrough videobuying these will be familiar with Steve Tan and his brother,Evan Tan, and some of their amazing exploits
that they have been putting together in theeCommerce space. My first exposure to Steve
was a post that he made on Tim [Bird's 00:01:13]Facebook buyers group where he showed screenshots
of his first $400,000 day. That's a big dayby anyone's standards and I was just absolutely
blown away. I instantly starting digging inand researching about who these guys were
and what kind of numbers they're doing, soI'm very glad to finally get him on the show.
I'm sure, as he's told me, that's just oneof his stories. He's got several other ones
going on and he's here to talk a little bitwith our audience about his eCommerce success.

All right. We're back in business. Okay perfect.First hiccup overcome. The first thing that
I like to do on my podcast is the guest tellsa little bit about their marketers hero's
journey. What brought you from starting out?How long have you been doing this and what
are some of the key steps along the way thatbrought you to where you are today?
I think I mean mindset is very critical forme. I started back in 2006 selling physical
products, not on eCommerce stores, but oneBay, so probably that's my first step in
how I got started with selling physical products.It scaled to a point whereby I'm doing probably
40, 50k per month and I felt that it's reallyhard to scale furthermore. I kind of like
started to look for solutions whereby I couldhave everything on my own store rather like
on a platform whereby I can control my salesfunnels, I can get my email address from all
the customers, I can do follow-up everything,right? So eventually we ventured into doing
our own eCommerce stores.Started with a blog, kind of like the old
before WordPress. We dabbled with HTML pages,then luckily eventually Magento came out,
but it's like a really, really heavy solution.Probably back in '07 we started exploring
Magento. '07, '08. But things really pickedup for us mid of '08 to '09 whereby we started
scaling probably around 3 to 400k per month.The peak was 500k. We can't go through 500k.
Anything more than that, it's like unachievablefor us. But it's pretty consistent. The era
is just crazy back then, because like there'sliterally not much people using Facebook.
We were spending about 1 to 200k per monthwith Facebook like then, so like your a super
big baller when you are spending 100k backthen. They treat you like king, they give
you all the AP access, they'll give you alot.
But it's so much easier right now, becausethere is pixels. Facebook has evolved so much,
like made it so easy for all these advertisers,which is why I'm sharing a lot with all my
friends and people who's getting interestedin eCommerce, because there is no better time
to get started, because you guys have Shopifyright now. You can get set up like a star
in just literally a few minutes or even fora newbie it's like 10, 20 minutes or just
like a few hours right? Facebook ads probablyjust takes you a few weeks just to really
get good at it. You know, familiarize yourselfand it's all about testing. Back in the days
we don't even have pixels. You have to usecustom codes, custom third party tracking.
There's now like all this convenient stuffever. Yeah.
Yeah. It is. You've obviously come a longway. So you first started hitting your big
success in 2007, 2008 you were saying? And-Yeah, 2008, 2009, yeah.
2008, 2009. And then since then, what hasit been like? Like what allowed you to get
over … Did it peak then, or has it continuedto go up? And then what do you attribute like
being able to get over that next hump.It kind of like peaked during then, then we
did some different startups, we did some crowdfunding,we did some tech startups, consumer electronics.
It did pretty well. We did a few million insome of the startups that we did. You know,
things go up and down. Met some bad partners,got cheated in a lot of business. So at that
point of time it's like we're still prettyyoung, you know? Young and naïve probably.
So you're going to meet a lot of people that'sgoing to [inaudible 00:05:56] because you're
successful in a way that they want you toinvest your time and money, right? It kind
of brought us down to a point of where welost a lot of all the money that we earned
during our young days.So it's pretty up and down 'till all the way
that I kind of like so sick of it. I evengot into Forex for a few months just to see
… Because the mind during at the time ofwhere everything crashes you kind of get into
a really bad mindset whereby you want to tryto salvage whatever you can just to get reach
again quickly, right? But chance is that youknow that when you get into such a bad mindset
and you want to get rich quick, you'll justtry something that's not stable, that's really
high risk. So I got into Forex for a few monthsfor 20k, blew it in just a few weeks and I
figured out it's not something I really want.So one of my really good friends just said,
“Why not just go back and do eCommerce, sinceyou guys are good at it, right?”
It kind of gave me a wake up call after wehad like a 24-hour chat. You know, this guy
who is really my good friend gave me a wakeup call. So I went crazy and I just thought
I really need to get up to speed with whathas changed and everything. And for us to
just go back and do drop shipping, it's soeasy compared to all the startups that I have
been doing. It's like a no-brainer. Like noneof effort and energy required to do a startup
and compared to a drop shipping or a Shopifystore is like probably just 1 or 2% of what
it's like doing a startup.So yeah, I mean we scaled really, really aggressively
really quickly. Even in the first month wedid like high six figures and continue to
do like seven figures the next month and wescaled more. Since then, we did multiple eight
figures or 80 since then.Unbelievable. And you're gearing up for your
biggest Christmas ever, I would imagine.Yeah, so this year we're going to make sure
we crush hard on Christmas. At this pointof time our Philippines team is 100% virtual,
but I have a lot of offices in Philippinesbefore, but obviously because of the startups
close and open, right? You have to open yourstartup, close your startup. I'm kind of jaded
in a way that I don't really want to havelike physical office and I've spoken to a
lot of good friends, gurus that told me, “Youknow, just keep it virtual.”
But I think I came to a point of time thatI really want to start a new office again
in Philippines. I like the startup vibe, theFacebook style, Google style kind of office,
so we're going to probably buy a big officenext year in Philippines and have everyone
work from the office in kind of like a hybrid,physical and virtual setup.
Cool. We have a team in Manila and they'rejust amazing and I haven't visited them there
yet, but I just saw today, there's a teamof 30 that iStack has in Manila and apparently
the sense of camaraderie in the Philippines,in this office is just unbelievable. Like
they've made it a great place to hang out,so people are sleeping there. They play a
weekly poker game, like they have this bigpoker tournament all the time. Just the way
that things have kind of come together there.I think it makes a lot of sense and I think
you might see some benefits from having that.That being said, the remote office thing is
absolutely wonderful. I split my time abouttwo days a week at home and three days in
the office and I really enjoy having thatbalance. For me personally it helps a lot.
Mm-hmm (affirmative). Yeah. Sounds good man.So we used to have a team of 50 people in
Philippines, also in Manila, so we were inthe Ortigas area. It's really nice that they
work really quickly with their co-workers.In Asia especially probably in China or in
Singapore people don't hang out with colleagueson the weekends, but in Philippines they'll
go out for a movie, they go out for bowling.I mean the vibe is just really strong. They're
becoming really good friends, they do hangout during the weekends with their families
and so forth. It's also depending on the companyculture obviously, but I think those are people
that, if you treat them really nice, you getrewarded like 10x your investments.
Yeah. In my experience I'm a pretty nice guyanyway, but the quality of their work is just
astounding. The design, the development. Soyou're using design, development. Do you also
have a lot of customer service reps in thePhilippines as well?
Yeah, mainly all the customer support arefrom the Philippines, and because they speak
really good English the rates are reasonable,so I've been telling a lot of my friends,
“Please don't spoil the market rates,” becauseit used to be 2, 300 U.S. but right now probably
of this search of demand for customer supportreps, these guys are just going crazy. On
Upwork they're charging crazy rates, like,5, 600, 7 to 800, so it might seem cheap in
the US or in Europe, but this really … everyoneis spoiling the market rate because they think
it's still cheap, but it can be cheaper. ButI'm not saying that we should underpay all
those people, but you should only reward thosethat are really exceptional and good and up
to par and not like just across the boardeveryone gets the good rate, you know, everyone
gets like super high pay. It just spoils themarket for a lot of people sometimes.
Yeah, I can imagine. So you're now operatingat this super high scale. What are some of
the tools? Have you had to build out at thescale that you're out when it comes to fulfillment
and customer service? Have you had to buildout your own software tools at all, or have
you been relying on external tools? And ifso, what are some of the tools that have really
made a big difference for you guys that haveallowed you to scale to the heights you have?
I think we do use some tools. It's like local,custom-made. It's more for logistics, because
you have to integrate with your warehouseWMS tools whereby it takes care of all your
logistics, your warehouse management. We dohave like an experienced manager in place
for that, so he takes care of all the settingup, the integration and everything for that.
Other than that we don't use a lot of Shopifyapps, mainly because of if sometimes it's
used too much, it's going to slow down yourstore. There are some apps that's not really
ethical that steals your data. But overallwe just use minimal apps on our stores. A
lot of things that we do are actually integrateddirectly into the store, so in a way we do
some custom-built apps, mainly for our logistics.But the rest would be just …
I think most of the people are using customcurrency conversion, Wheelio. We used to,
but we stopped using urgency apps, like thosecountdown timers. We stopped using that. We
really don't use much of the apps right now,so the scaling would majority come from Facebook
ads. We diversify a lot of our traffics. Wedo a lot of SEO. So SEO accounts to probably
10, 20% of our-That's incredible.
Yeah, 10, 20%. Give our volume it's stillgood money. We don't do native ads for now,
but after talking with James probably we wouldbe interested to test it out too. But Google,
Google AdWords, [GDN 00:14:11], Google Search,SEO, Facebook. Facebook is still the majority,
because it's so much easier to scale withFacebook compared to any other traffic source.
Yeah, when they like what you're doing youcan really put the pedal to the floor. You're
scaling to these incredible heights here.Are you running into policy often? Do you
have a strong relationship with the policyteam there? You obviously have a rap, they
were treating you like a king early on.No, not now.
No? Now it's a struggle?I mean like we do have good relationships
with Facebook obviously given the spend we'redoing, so they do advise us on what kind of
creatives we should avoid. They obviouslycan't tell you off the bat for every single
creative you upload, but if there's problemsthey'll work with us to get it resolved instead
of just shutting you down for no reason. Ifyour ad got removed there's usually a good
reason why, like what happened, so you knowwhat exactly happened instead of being in
the dark.Interesting. Let's just talk logistics a little
bit, about the kind of scale you're workingwith. We talk to people that want to get into
drop shipping. Most often the easiest thingfor them is to go and get Oberlo and get Shopify
and just flip things from China. Is that howyou started?
Yes, when we just got started. I mean whenwe got started the unique advantage is being
like we have been in China for more than tenyears, right? So we're so familiar of where
to do all the procurement, all the purchasing.Off the bat we didn't even use AliExpress,
because it's kind of like for beginners, becauseit's more expensive. We usually just source
from locals. Local websites like [inaudible00:16:14] or 1688. There's a lot of different
sources that we go to, but being able to speakthe local language and having a team there
in China does help a lot. It sorts out allthis.
Basically we can't consider ourselves as dropshipping, because we do hold a lot of inventory.
Multiple, multiple six figures of inventoryin our warehouse. I'm not sure if you have
seen the video. We have a big warehouse inChina that does all our logistics so yeah,
you could check it out. I shot a quick videoon it.
Yeah I will.I showed everyone in the group a tour of my
warehouse in China. Basically it takes careof all our fulfillment and logistics. Pick,
pack, ship, everything is done there. Onceour procurement team does the purchase everything
gets shipped to the warehouse. Everythingis labeled properly, so every time when they
pick, pack, ship, everything is scanned, everythinggoes through the system, so it's very systematic.
I don't exactly know the super nitty grittydetails of every single step, because you
have to hire professionals to do that foryou. I mean it's not the CEO's job to know
every single shit that happens in the company.But definitely do only considering having
your own warehouse, logistics, everything,when probably doing at least high, 5 to 600k
per month. Then probably consider, becauseanything below that, I don't think it's really
necessary at this point of time.I mean you can easily get sourcing agents
or people or even your sellers could do thatfor you. Like AliExpress sellers. Once you
have a good relationship with them, they'reusually more than happy to source other single
products for you, because they get to earnmoney from that. I have a few good friends
doing high six figures and they only relyon AliExpress sellers, which they came to
develop a relationship in a way that theycould help them become their sourcing agent.
They could cut out AliExpress essentially,but the relationship is forged through Ali?
Yeah, they are forged through Ali. They establishthe trust and everything in there, then they
will say, “Okay, I could help you source thisproduct.” In a way when you started selling
more, you approach them, “Hey, do you havethis product?” They will just tell you, “Okay,
I could source this for you,” because it isso easy for locals just to type it in, get
some samples. It's just so easy for localsto do it and because they speak the native
language there.So step one, speak Mandarin or have a partner
that speaks it.Yeah. I think just getting started, don't
worry too much about it. Let's start off withAliExpress, get everything setup properly,
getting to know your suppliers, get to forgea relationship out of it and probably start
off to see if they are open to … Usuallytry not to go for the super big sellers, because
they kind of don't give a shit for you, becauseyou're small and to them probably they don't
even know you're going to scale hard enough.But most of them I would say, if once you
show numbers, once you show the scale, I willprobably say eight out of ten would be more
than happy to take on more business, becausewhy not, right? It's free money for them.
They're just going to buy it for you, shipit for you. They get a cut, so yeah.
Yeah, but for you guys and your ability toscale, like newbies aside. Obviously that's
great advice for newbies getting in there,but with you guys having your own warehouse,
was that a big game changer for you in thatway? You were able to pull in feeds from all
sorts of different products and house themin one spot. Does that just make it easier
to procure things at massive scale?Yeah, definitely. For sure. I would say it's
a unique advantage that we do have. Anyonethat's seven figures should definitely have
their own fulfillment setup in China, becausethe cost savings, the processing speed, the
ability to scale. I mean not all supplierscan scale 5 or 6,000 order per day and not
necessarily you're going to get all the suppliersto be able to have stock. Usually there's
a point of time whereby we buy out the entireChina market supply. It's like we are scaling
so aggressively like everyone is out of stockand we have an agreement that only they can
sell it to us, so any copycats who try toget into the game and try to sell the same
product, they don't even have inventory. Soeventually they are just going to refund all
the customers and take the loss for all thead spend.
That's a unique advantage that we do havesometimes, depending on how hard we scale
and how new the product is. If the productis really mature, super a lot of sellers and
manufacturers, then it's probably harder.But if it's a new product, probably you'll
need five or six big manufacturers. We caneasily usually buy out the entire market for
that.When you posted about your $400,000 spend
days, that was on one store essentially.Yeah.
Now can you tell me, is that one product oris that multiple products within that?
Multiple, yeah.What's your general approach?
Multiple products. It's kind of hard to scaleon product to that scale, but probably we
have like a few winners for that and it'sactually much easier to scale with several
potential big winners, but definitely onebig winner combined with four or five small
winners and then you can get to close to 400k.Or else it's very hard. It's very hard.
And working the up sales obviously where you're-Yes.
So they're tightly-themed products. The productswhere you have an audience in mind ahead of
time. You probably have been building thataudience. You probably have pixel data on
that audience. Can you give me one of theways that you would use in order to scale
an audience to the heights that you're talkingabout. Is it just based on the fact that you've
achieved that scale in the past and thereforeyour pixel has learned this amount? Or are
there any hacks that you have for ways thatpeople can hack to scale that? Because it's
just a matter of spending.I would say probably like the product. The
product and your ad copy, your landing page.There's a lot of factors that takes into account
on how you could scale to these kind of heights,because if you are spending a lot of money,
obviously you're … Anyone can spend a lotof money, but does it convert? Does it get
sales? Is this product something that peoplewant? Do you have inventory for this product?
Is there any potential that you are not ableto ship all this products, but you have a
lot of sales for that? All this has to betaken into account, but I would say definitely
concerning how aggressive you are. Becausefor us, whenever there's good profits we'll
just scale it and we use a lot of differenttechniques and strategies on how we scale
it, so it's definitely not just a single strategythat we're using and not just because of the
product or not just … It doesn't just accountto the strategy or product. Everything comes
into play in all this scale.So I think it took a while for us to get there,
but definitely it's hard to get there, becausewith all the crazy amount of things you have
to do. You have to make sure everything isright before you have to scale, or else you're
just wasting ad spend. I think there was onetime that we tried to scale really hard and
the product doesn't … I mean the whole marketis just that small, right? But we're trying
to force this product to have more sales andit doesn't work, so we tried scaling it to
probably almost 100k per day and it just diedoff from there.
And so it was wasted spend essentially.Yeah, yeah.
How do you guys deal with shipping times?I know that's an issue. I know that Facebook
is starting to talk about sending surveysto users after they've ordered products online
about when they got their products. I guesshaving your fulfillment center speeds things
up a little bit. Is it a concern, the lengthof the shipping time generally?
No. We don't even have concerns about that,because we don't have three to five days processing
time, which it's already a lot, right? That'salmost a week. If you take into account five
… Let's just say five days, right? AliExpresssellers have like five days processing time,
so from the amount of five days processingtime, takes about another two more days to
get to the ports and everything. Essentiallyyou're wasting already one week, right? That
is the reason why most of the AliExpress sellershave crazy long shipping times, because you're
working through an AliExpress seller wherebythey have tons of orders and your order is
just … Just one of them being backlog allthe way to five or six days later. For us,
every order … If we have inventory, everythingthat comes in on the same day gets shipped
out on the same day.Perfect.
There's no delays, there's no processing times.If we have inventory and it's not shipped
out, someone is going to answer for that andsomeone is going to get fired for that, you
know? I mean having everything in-house forlogistics, I would say is definitely an advantage
and something that you could actually speedup a lot of the things that it's not used
to be possible. So it's definitely more cumbersomehaving all this space that you need, all this
inventory, all this people that you have tohire. It's like a very manpower-intensive
role when you're setting up your warehouse.It's not like you can set automation for all
this virtual stuff. It's hard, but I wouldsay it's definitely worth it when you're scaling.
But everything less than 400k per month, Iwouldn't even consider setting up all this.
Yeah. No, that makes sense. Can you tell me,is your customer base truly global, or is
it still mostly based in the United States?Very global. I would say US is definitely
one of the biggest markets for sure, but not100%. US probably accounts 40% overall.
Wow.40, 50%, yeah.
That's interesting.It's still the biggest one country, but if
you're missing out on the other countries,like UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, all
the English speaking countries, you're definitelymissing out on a lot of money and Europe is
a very good market for us too. So if you'renot doing Europe market, definitely putting
a lot of money on the table.Is there a Chinese market for these products
or is it really just for the decadent West?I would say definitely yes, but very competitive,
because you are sourcing from China, right?Unless you have a really strong brand, because
Chinese people like to buy French, US madestuff, right?
Yeah.So unless you could do white label or you
rebrand something that's so special and youhave a really strong brand, you can resell
it from US back to China, but essentiallyeverything is made in China. I've seen a lot
of good brands doing that, but if you arejust doing drop shipping, I don't think it's
feasible because the competition is just cutthroat in China, man. They undercut you like
crazy. Like on [inaudible 00:28:04], oh man,you have to check the prices. Like it's just
ridiculous.Interesting. Yeah, that's a very good [inaudible
00:28:09]. Maybe we just need to get big productioncenters in the heartlands of the United States
where they're struggling over there, and thenthey can sell it back to China to be like,
“Made by Americans.”Yeah, I mean like definitely there's always
a demand for like made in America, becauseI mean it's just like the culture.
Yeah.Like Asians, we just like to by US made or
European made. We believe the quality is somuch better than China. I think it's just
like the culture thing, so definitely a goodmarket for that, but your branding has to
be strong and it has to be so powerful ina way that people, oh, they're willing to
pay like 10x the price, right?Yeah.
For sure.I know now you can't just establish that overnight
necessarily.No, it's a pain. In my Mastermind a few weeks
ago, the Phuket one that I did, a lot of themare trying to transition over to doing a long-term
brand, which is good for sure, but I sharedmy experience and what I did for my brand,
because a lot of people has a misconceptionof building a brand. They thought, “Oh, maybe
you're building a brand that's just creatinga logo, having a logo, a slogan and putting
it on a product. That's branding.” That'snot true. When we're talking about branding
it has to be consistent from top to bottom.You have to care about your customers, you
have to have a company culture, you have tohave good vision whereby you can share with
your employees and everything, right? It'slike all the startups that I've done is kind
of like Silicon Valley startups that we aretrying to really build something to be really
big, so you have to be really prepared whenyou're going to be invested in doing a brand.
I think I shared a lot of my experience duringthe Mastermind so that people know what they're
getting into rather than just like, “Oh. It'sjust a logo. It's just a slogan. That's it.
I have a brand.” Yeah.Superficial. A lot of people have a superficial
idea of what a brand takes.Yes.
Very interesting. One of my questions was,in a last podcast I did with Malan Darras,
who is one of the original affiliate mediabuyers who's … He's really good at finding
products and making them work essentially,so my question is what is your approach to
sort of fast-follow products that are alreadyworking in the space that you reveal through
niche finding and SEO tools and things likethat? Have your biggest wins been through
pioneering a product and being more or lessa first mover on some of these big products?
Definitely the biggest winners you have tobe the pioneer. I mean you definitely can
try to be a copycat. I mean this is like anopen, very transparent market, especially
with all the spy tools, but you get to a stagewhereby you realize that even you know this
product is a killer and let's say you areselling something that's super selling super
well, and I'll try to take it and I'll tryreplicate your success, not necessarily I'll
get the same results. It's just strange, butFacebook does, you know … I'm not so sure.
They probably give them preference to earlyadopters or people that could start early,
because if you have been testing enough productsyou would just realize that it doesn't work
that way.Like I could take all the best selling products
that I know and all the best winners, allhot selling products and I will just slap
it on our page and probably because of differentniche or some of them are general stores,
you know, it doesn't just work. I honestlyhope it could be that easy, because with all
the tools that we have, all the research teamthat we have in place, we basically know every
single hot selling product, but it doesn'twork that way. It's probably because something
to do with our targeting, probably a pixel.There's a lot of factors, but sometimes if
you test enough products you're just goingto get better odds of winning at this game,
because it all boils down to testing differentkind of products, the SOP's, the systems you
have in place.I was telling the Vietnam crowd that I was
doing an event last week, even that we gotso drunk, we have hangover, the whole team
is still running by itself, because you havea good SOP's in place to make sure that all
this products are being tested day in andday out without fail. Even without us, me
and Evan, not being in the business, everythingis still running as it is. Yeah, that's called
a real business in my opinion, yeah.Nice, so that you can get away with being
hungover. I love it.Yeah. Exactly.
And spending an hour talking on a podcastwith a daft Canadian. Fantastic, well that's
… I had another question too about whenyou're dealing with Facebook at the scale
that you're dealing with, when you're spendingas much on Facebook, are you using the automation
tools that Facebook provides? Are you interfacing,for instance, with their API to spin up campaigns
quicker? Or is this done through Power Editorand slogging away, duplicating campaigns and
things like that?We use a variety of tools to do that. We don't
have our own custom-built API. I don't thinkit's required for now. I mean we're not at
the scale that we're spending hundreds ofmillions per year, so I don't think it's necessary
to custom-build your API. Probably you'llbe better off using a third party, so they
do recommend us to use a lot of Smartly. Differentkind of … A lot of Facebook partners that
can help you scale. I think it's not necessaryright now for us, and especially [inaudible
00:33:56] the fact they have to charge youa percentage of your ad spend. I think some
of them do take 5 to 10% of your ad spend,which I don't like it, because we're spending
a lot, so obviously 10%, it's a lot of moneyfor us. I would rather just hire tons more
media buyers in the Philippines, because Imean good media buyers in the Philippines
are probably just a few thousand U.S. permonth. Compared to a percentage of the ad
spend, I could literally hire 50 people, right?I don't see the benefits of doing so.
But we do use Facebook automation tools, theinbuilt ones with some easy automation like
increase budget. I mean all this are free,so just use it. Of course don't expect it
to be as sophisticated as Smartly, becauseit's free. But it's just a matter of time
whereby Facebook is going to come up withsomething that's as powerful as that. Because
I've seen Facebook starting to kind of copysome of the features from all these different
tools.Nice.
And putting it all into Facebook, so we stilluse a lot, a lot of Power Editor and we do
use like [inaudible 00:35:15] and Espressofrom time-to-time to mass create ads, but
yeah, I mean it's like I wouldn't worry toomuch about using all this super tools until
you're at a super bigger scale. At least likemultiple six figures.
That makes sense. Now what about video ads?A lot of people talk about eCommerce and video
being the only way to go. What's your mixon video to static when it comes to advertising
for eCommerce?Video is definitely a good one for us and
Facebook reps does highly recommend it. Theytold us even if you're trying to do static
photo ads, try to just put it into animationso that it's video in a way. But I do still
run a lot of photo ads. I think I still runabout 20, 30% of photo ads in our overall
campaigns, because it's still works. I meanif the majority of everyone is like … I
mean the market is like this, right? Wheneveryone sees someone is doing this thing,
everyone flocks to do the same thing, so everyoneis leaving the photo space in a way, so you're
going to be able to kind of capitalize whenall the marketers are not doing photo ads
anymore. So probably you could be the bigguy in photo ads where everyone is just concentrating,
everyone is just pitching video ads. Definitelyvideo ads is big for us, no doubt, big for
us, but I'll definitely diversify. Usuallywe try to diversify in everything we do. Business,
ads, traffic, everything we do is diversified.Nice. Another thing that was brought to my
attention that's like a really key aspectto scaling your sales is responding to comments
on Facebook ads. Simple things like when someonehas a question you respond with a product
link. There's all this stuff that's happeningthrough customer engagement. I was going to
say what percentage of your business is derivedfrom this strong attention to the customer?
And specifically responding to Facebook ads.Do you see a large portion of sales coming
from that?I think it's helpful, but definitely not critical
in a sense that's crazy, so that we do havesocial media managers replying to all those
messages day in and day out, 24 hours, butit's a good practice I would say. But I won't
say it's to a scale whereby it affects yourbusiness critically in a way, but it shows
people that there's someone responding, soit gives more engagement, gives people more
trust that they're speaking to someone thatexists instead of just a viral video.
Nice. Super good. I know we're pressed fortime today. I think we're just coming close
to an end year, but I want to first of allsay we're super excited that you're going
to be coming to Affiliate World Asia in Bangkokon December 6th and 7th and we've also just
come to an agreement where you're going tocome to Facebook Master Live and talk about
there. If for some reason that changes we'lledit this out, but I don't think so. I think
it's going to happen, so we'll make sure thatthat's a big hit.
And then talk a little bit about what elseyou're up to. I know you just had this Mastermind
in Phuket that James van [inaudible 00:38:28]came back with raving reviews about the people
he met and all these silent killers doingjust huge, huge numbers in eCommerce and he
also was talking about how he was like a giantthere, because yeah, I'd just see these pictures.
He's just such a big dude, which was funny.But talk a little bit more about what you
have going on. What you have coming up. Iknow you guys have a really big conference
coming up pretty quick.Yeah, so this coming Saturday we have … I
think it's one of the biggest eCommerce eventsin the world. It's our first event that we
set up in Singapore, so part of the reasonwhy Singapore, because I'm from Singapore
and I felt that I … I hate flying, so Idefinitely [inaudible 00:39:09] fly all the
way to the US where all the golden nuggetsand all the big speakers are there. This year
probably because of, like, I have good relationshipswith all the speakers, so I kind of invited
them to Singapore, because Singapore is areally nice place, really safe, really clean
financial city of Asia. A lot of the few speakershave already been to Singapore and they loved
it, so I was thinking why not bring everyonehere, since there's such a big pool of marketers
in Asia, Bangkok, Singapore, Malaysia.Philippines, yeah.
Yeah, the demand here is just big, if notbigger than the US. Definitely one of the
big perks is having all this amazing speakersin the short two days. You now, generally
it's a lot of people flying all the way fromthe US, all the way from Europe, I mean North
America. Everyone is just coming. I thinkwe have people flying all over 20 or 30 countries
just for this coming Saturday event, so we'resuper hyped up. We're so pumped. We really
want to see how far we can bring this eventto.
And your speaker list is incredible. Likeliterally every person that I've come across
in this eCommerce space is going to be there.Did you get Firestone to come out?
No. Ezra, he wanted, but he doesn't enjoyflying more than 24 hours, which is [inaudible
00:40:47] from New York, so the flight timeis just crazy. He wanted to try to come, but
it's too far for him, so probably next timeif we do eCommerce World Summit in US, definitely
he's going to be one of our candidates we'regoing to … I like Ezra a lot. He is a really
down-to earth guy, very, very knowledgeable,very willing to share all his stuff so yeah,
he's definitely one of the first speakersthat we reached out to, but unfortunately
he doesn't enjoy such a long flight, so-Yeah, I found the same thing. I was trying
to get him to come to both Berlin and Asiaand Bangkok and he was not into it, but yeah,
I really enjoy his persona as well. He's reallydown-to-earth and really he's not just about
… He talks about all sorts of things onhis social profiles and stuff, so he's an
enjoyable guy.Yeah. Definitely, definitely. Yeah.
That's really cool. Okay cool, so here's mylast question. As marketers, we're in this
pursuit, we're trying to scale our businessesto massive heights. What is it for you? Like
why do you do this? Everyone likes to win,so that's a part of it, but what are the things
that are like what you would consider a peakexperience? What's a peak experience for you?
Because I feel like we do a lot of this workso that we can have these amazing experiences
in life and for you. It's funny, because I'veseen some of the awesome pictures. You've
had some peak experiences. I've seen the Guccibags and the amazing cars and all that kind
of stuff, but what really floats your boatthese days?
Definitely I think, as you said, everyonelikes to win, right? And I think for me personally
I really wanted to make back whatever I lostin the past ten years. Like being cheated,
being lost in business investments. I justreally want to scale this really quickly and
as big as possible so that whatever I havelost through my bad decisions or bad partnerships
in the past can be recovered in this nextfew years.
I feel like you're going to do it.Yeah, we're already there, but it's just like
I'm really aggressive and ambitious in a way,because I want to be a really big company
in the past, so I reduced my ambitious projects,so next year we're going to focus a little
bit more on softwares, doing a little biton the side some trainings, some of the Masterminds
that I've did, meeting more people, joiningpeople's masterminds. And definitely our main
cash cow are definitely eCommerce right now,so definitely looking to diversify this business
a little bit more just in case this businessis not as good as before, were not affected.
But definitely I still see a huge, huge roomfor growth including ourselves and the overall
market, because there's such a huge demandfor our physical products.
Everyone is buying day in and day out. There'smore online buyers every single day, so I
don't see any risk in this business goingdown anytime soon.
No. It's the biggest opportunity of our generation,I feel like, right? I've been part of affiliate
marketing for over ten years and I've seentrends come and go, but this one is something
else and this one is … yeah, it's open toa lot more people than traditional affiliate
media buying would have been in the past,just because there's a lot more to it. You're
able to invest in products, invest in niches,build out your audiences. It's something that's
super exciting. I'm super happy to be a partof it as well.
