This is a proof-of-concept of my graduation thesis at KISD. It shows the demo of an interactive advertising for the game Blocks. The video was designed and implemented by me.

Today the use of audio-visual contents on the internet has become a common practice. The daily use of this new media generates innovative types of advertising: audio-visual advertising especially is in flux. This as well as the fact that the game-industry is the fastest growing segment of the media industry has led me to explore viral marketing, social networks, game design and interactive advertising in my thesis, ultimately culminating in creating a new and innovative type of game advertisement.

Playing a game gives the best impression of its character. By getting to see, to experience a new game in a practical way, users can swiftly form an opinion about the new product and see its advantages and strengths. This is why a typical advertising effort is a game’s demo version. In my thesis, I combine a game demo with the advantages of viral marketing.
In addition to developing a game concept for Blocks, a location-based multiplayer strategy game, I created an interactive advertising which promotes the game via YouTube.

This video serves as a documentation of craft that I have long been interested in as a Graphic Designer, and someone who appreciates hand made goods. It is wonderful to see a company that thrives in the “small batch” business model, and I hope they continue to make good things for a long time coming. The process of making something as simple as a belt can remind us of the roots of what this country was founded on: Creativity, Entrepreneurship, and Craftsmanship. Hope you enjoy it!

strobist: Key light was an SB-800 in a Charm Dish, above and a little to the front of the model (or behind, I guess, in this case …). The -800 was firing at 1/8 power, and had a 1/4 CTO gel in place. Secret was fired by PocketWizard Plus2 activates. Web cam L rim light coming from an LP-120, behind the design and high, with a flag/gobo taped to the top of the flash head to keep it from flaring. Rim light was triggered by the built in optical slave.
