… … A huge thank you to GAPC (gapc.com) for filming and modifying and Magpie Jewellery (ww.magpiejewellery.com) for being our primary sponsors. This month’s host was the historical Arts Court. Arts Court, the previous Carleton County Court house, was integrated in 1870 to replace the very first court house and prison of 1842 that had burned beyond repair work. Created by architect Robert Surtees, the building boasts a variety of Italianate functions, consisting of window surrounds, rusticated quoins and tall chimneystacks. The cornerstone consists of gold, silver and copper coins and bank tokens of the period. 2 years after the brand-new courthouse on Elgin opened in 1986, this limestone building was moved to the City of Ottawa. Arts Court now houses more than 25 arts and heritage organizations.
