www.knme.org – KNME concentrates on the work of the older artist, how his understanding grows with age and how his work modifications.
The piece features the work of several well known New Mexicans painters, Frederick Hammersley and Wilson Hurley, architect, George Pearl, and carvers, Charles Mattox and Florence Pierce.
Hammersley and Hurley both speak of an enlightenment that comes with age and a yearning to constantly enhance one’s work.
Mattox goes over an unavoidable knowledge that comes with age; it is this side to growing older as an artist that he says improves his perception of the world and his creative reaction to it.
Pierce, meanwhile is a female in love with her art. She mentions having a dual mentality from which to derive inspiration, the side of her that has actually remained ignorant, ecstatic and passionate, and the side of her that has altered with life experience.
George Pearl talks about the various routes his work has taken over time; he is striving always for a much better product.
