CS2 on Demand

Back when I was looking to buy Photoshop CS2, and had mentioned that I was also looking to buy some books on the plethora of features available in the program, Little Miss Kimmyshine said she had a book on CS2 she’d be willing to give me, since she’d upgraded to a more recent version of Photoshop. Well, the lovely and beautiful Kimmy recently FlickrMailed me, letting me know that she’d finally been able to get it in the mail, so I thought I’d make it public that it arrived in the mail today (March 11). 😀 What I like about this volume over the others that I’ve purchased, is that it includes (and marks!) ACE Objectives. (ACE = Adobe Certified Expert) ACE sounds nice to me. Sounds like a possible source of income. 😛 😀 LOL And that brings to mind a story. I’ll try to keep it as brief as possible…

Several years ago, when I was unemployed, I’d looked into going back to school, at a specialized technical school, to get into web design. (I’ve done a little bit of web design, creating my own web sites for personal things—but nothing professionally—even a site to display my knowledge of HTML, as a graphic and textual representation of my résumé. My blogs contain lots of customization (in the graphics used, as well as the code), even though I’ve used templates created by others.) The recruiter at this school, when he learned how highly technical my professional background is, thought that the graphic design course would be too boring and unchallenging for me, so he suggested that I might want to look into something more technical, such as learning how to set up web sites for eCommerce. What a dunce! (It was rather like an experience I had years and years ago in a class I’d attended. I’ll explain in a moment.) Some sales people just don’t understand that the best way to make a sale is empathy, not self-interest. Don’t direct your customer to the more expensive product, so that you get the higher commission. Find out what your customer’s interests/needs are, and then direct them to what will fill those interests/needs, regardless of how large or small your commission will be. It’ll build your reputation, and the end result will be more sales from referrals and you’ll get that income that you’re lusting after. To make a long story short, I didn’t attend that school because all the recruiter was interested in was getting me into the more expensive program and I’d made it clear that I was more interested in the more creative side of things.

Now, regarding that class mentioned earlier: In a discussion held in that class one day, I’d mentioned that I enjoyed doing creative things. This one girl, knowing of my telecom background, thought I meant R&D (Research & Development), and I had to tell her, “No. I mean writing fiction. I’m not talking about anything technical.”

Okay. Those are my stories, and I’m done telling them… for the time being. 😛 For now, I just want to thank Kimmy for sending me this book. 😀 Thank you, thank you, thank you! I really appreciate it! 😀
