Oscar Murrillo on envisioning future technology (part 2 of 2)


This talk highlights the objectives, process, people, and outcomes associated with producing futuristic vision demos for Microsoft. Included are examples of some of the work the Microsoft Strategic Prototyping team has produced over the past two years, focusing on domains that include Healthcare in Developed and Developing Regions, Education, the Visual Internet, architecturally embedded computing, and computing in the home.

Oscar Enrique Murillo is a Senior User Experience Designer working for Microsoft’s Strategic Prototyping group. The team, which reports directly to Craig Mundie, Microsoft’s Chief Research and Strategy Officer, is responsible for creating futuristic demonstrations, such as the Microsoft Home of the Future, that illustrate Microsoft’s vision for how technology can enable massive change 3, 5, 10 and even 15 years into the future. Prior to joining the Strategic Prototyping team, Oscar was the sole User Experience designer on the Windows Natural User Interfaces (NUI) team. During his tenure with NUI, Oscar helped incubate and ship products that enabled users to effectively interact with computers through speech and natural language. Oscar has been working as a designer for over eleven years, and has been an Art Director at AT&T, InfoSpace Mobile and with Clique.com, where he created ecommerce and marketing communication
experiences for clients such as Renault, the band U2, Forbes, Cosmopolitan and Wallpaper Magazine. Oscar studied Industrial Design in Bogota at the National University of Colombia’s Taller Cinco, and Multimedia at the Vancouver Film School.
